Welcome to Silver Blades FSC of Kansas City

Silver Blades FSC of KC is an active and energetic figure skating club with members throughout the Greater Kansas City area.  Our mission is to be a leader in the sport and art of figure skating by challenging each member to achieve one’s highest potential and personal goals.  As part of this mission we support our members with coordination of Club Ice, Training Classes and Testing sessions as well as access to various seminars and social activities throughout the year.  We host the Heart of America Invitational Competition each year open to skaters across the country and we are a member club of the Midwest Figure Skating Council.

Nana's Scholarship

Nana’s Scholarship

The Jan Fenton Memorial Skating Fund

On January 22, 2015, Alexis Fenton's Nana, Jan Fenton, passed away from an unexpected illness she could not overcome. Many people knew her from her unending chatter, her British accent and absolute love for figure skating. She knew no strangers and lived life to the fullest. People often saw her skating at the area ice rinks with her granddaughters and were charmed by her enthusiasm and joy while on the ice.

To honor Jan's life and her passion for skating, her family has created a memorial skating scholarship. Again this year, Nana's Fund will be used to subsidize two contracted Club Ice sessions during the 2018-2019 season ($250.00 for each). There will be an award for both a younger and older Silver Blades skater based on a written composition about skating.

All essays must be written by Silver Blades skaters 18 and under. Entries will be chosen anonymously by the family and MUST be submitted by May 31, 2018. The awards will be announced at the Silver Blades banquet. Please see the second page for instructions for submitting scholarship essays.

We hope to offer this scholarship as an annual award. If you would like to donate to the fund, a check can be made out to Silver Blades, marked as Nana's Scholarship Fund and left in our box at KCIC. All money donated to Nana's Fund will be kept in a specifically designated account for future scholarship awards.

TO SUBMIT AN ESSAY for consideration for Nana’s Scholarship, please note;

  • There are two different age groups; skaters currently in kindergarten through 6th grade and 7th grade and above.
  • The younger group will write a 500 word or less composition and the older group will write a 1,000 word or less essay, on the topic of your choice.

  • If submitting by email, please list the skater's name in the subject line.
  • If not submitting by email, please list the skater's name clearly on an outside envelope! This will be how we will identify the winner once the essay has been chosen.
  • The winning essay will be read at the Silver Blades banquet in June

Kansas City Ronald McDonald House

SBFSC is supporting the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House in their goal to provide a loving, caring and supportive environment for families facing childhood illnesses.

Donations of pantry goods, storage and paper items, cleaning supplies, personal care and family items, among other supplies, are just a few of the things on the Ronald McDonald ‘Wish List’ that help make the RM House feel like a “home away from home”. A complete copy of their wish list is attached. You can also visit for updates and “top 10 items” that are needed.

Starting April 10, through May 14, you can drop off donations at KCIC during Club Ice. A red-top collection bin is available for almost items. If you are donating anything of significant size or would like to donate gift cards, please email SBFSC to arrange for drop off. Please do not place these items in the collection bin.

For the protection of immunosuppressed families, they request that all donated items are brand new.

While families come from across the United States and from around the world to stay, the Ronald McDonald House also supports local families. Wendy Melland is a USFS National Judge and a long time Silver Blades member, her daughter Tricia was also a Silver Blades member. The Melland family appreciates the help of the Ronald McDonald house in both Kansas City and Omaha. We hope the local skating community will help support the Melland family by giving to the Ronald McDonald house on behalf of Tricia.
